Looks Matter!

Friday, March 5th, 2010

As I was walking home from work, I was thinking how unfair it is that some people just look so beautiful and others are ugly. And don’t you tell me that appearance is not important at all, what matters is the heart. All of us know that to a certain level, appearance does matters, in fact a lot in this materialistic world.

So I was thinking that if everyone looks equally beautiful or equally ugly, then the world is not going to be interesting at all, right? And yeah, I got a point there, or so I thought. But hey, if you are the ugly one, how interesting could the world be? It would only be interesting if you are the pretty one and get more attention than others, no?

So, conclusion is, the world is unfair after all. Some people are born with silver spoons in their mouth, the others? Not even a spoon?

Tinted Moisturiser. Tried.

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Over the weekend, I went shopping with both of my two best friends, looking for tinted moisturiser. I went to many counters like Estee Lauder, Shiseido, Clinique, Stilla, Bobby Browns and some others. Only three has tinted moisturiser and I had the promoter tried the for me.

It is the first time I see it and I felt that it is not up to my expectation. I mean I suppose it will works well but somehow I felt that it is almost same like foundation but perhaps more moisturising. And I have to apply loose powder on it as well and remove with make up remover.

Which makes me think why do I want to have it at the first place? Why don’t I use my existing foundation? Well I guess I am just lazy and I thought tinted moisturiser is a way out. Apparently not. And I have not buy it yet. Maybe I would. Maybe not. =)

A kissable lip?

A kissable lip?

Here’s a little advice to keep your lip soft, pretty and healthy! For girls and guys too!

1. Before you go to sleep, dab a generous amount of lip balm on your lip. Optionally, you can also use Vaseline.

2. In the morning, exfoliate your lip with your tooth brush softly before brushing your teeth. Yes, lip needs exfoliating too!

3. Before applying your lippie, dab a little lip balm on the lips, preferable with SPF to protect against UV. Apply lippie. It’ll look soft and smooth, kissable lip!

4. Occasionally use lip mask to pamper your lip! :)

The ugly PORES~

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

I hate pores on my face as it always appear on both side of my cheek. How do I control it? Why does it grow bigger?

Here are some answers for pores fact!

-        Anything that clogs up your pores extends its natural diameter thereby making it appear larger than life. Yucks!

-
To make pores return to its natural size, deep cleansing and reducing sebum production is a must.

-
Wherever there is a hair, there will be a pore. This is where the sebaceous gland empties its sebum.

-
When dead skin cells, oils and bacteria choke the follicle opening, it expands the pore diameter.

-        As good as squeaky clean pores may feel, exfoliating too much can exacerbate oil production, making skin more prone to breakouts~

Basic Skincare~

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

I always have nice and clear skin. It’s not exactly excellent but at least I do not have major skin problems. Only sometimes I’ll have some pimples at certain times of the months or when I eat too much heaty stuffs.

That is probably why I am lazy to take good care of it till recently. I noticed that there are many tiny pimples popping up around my forehead, at between of my eyes! And now I realised how important is the basic 3 steps for skincare which is cleansing, toning (which I always skip) and moisturising.

Here is what I found :

Cleansing include cleaning your skin with creams, milk, lotions, foams, oils, gels and liquids. Using cotton pads dipped in these items is an affordable way.

Exfoliation includes cleaning with a scrub like synthetic puff or natural sponge.

Toning includes dipping cotton pads in astringents or applying fresh cucumbers with cup of yogurt and cleaning your face. Also you can apply tablespoon of honey and lemon juice and rub it in outward and upward strokes for excellent results.

The last stage of skin care includes well moisturizing the skin to bring a healthy glow to it. Apply moisturizer especially to dry areas to notice the change in few days.

Basic Nail Care~

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Nail is very important to us but many of us do not even take good and basic care of it. So what is the basic nail care that you follow for your nails?

  • Wash hands with mild soap, using a nailbrush.

  • Soak the hands in warm water for a few minutes to soften the cuticles (the bits of skin at the bottom of the nails).

  • Very gently push back the cuticles if they are long and ragged.

  • Trim the nails to the same length, cutting off any snaggy or spiky bits.

  • File the ends of the nails to smooth them off.

  • If your hands are dry, apply some hand cream.

More tips on Hair Care Shampooing~

More tips on shampooing your hair effectively :

1.      Don’t lather up on dry hair as shampoo works better on well-soaked hair. It minimize the usage of shampoo too and easier to remove the suds

2.
Do not apply shampoo to hair ends but to the scalp only.

3.
Don’t scratch your scalp as you lather as it could damage and irritate the scalp. Instead, massage into circular motions to boost circulation

4.
Don’t buy a shampoo just for the scent but for the ingredients!

Dry Skin, what causes them?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

I noticed dry patches on my face especially at the side of both cheeks few weeks ago. With that I soak it with hydration mask and put think moisturizer and Vitamin E cream that I bought during the cold weather in California. It helps for a day and get dry again.

Here are top 5 skin drying factors according to my favorite magazine:

1.      Using overly harsh products such as abrasive exfoliation which can strip lipids off the skin.

2.      Using too many products. Different ingredients from varying beauty lines can cancel each other out or irritate skin.

3.      Cleaning too often which pull all the oil off the skin and keeps it pliable and protected from bacteria.

4.      Air conditioned office – extreme temperature change from in office to hot air weather weakens the cell’s ability to retain moisture!

5.      Not adjusting for cold weather when travel – not adjusting our skincare according to the different temperature countries.

Eye Care

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

I think the most valuable feature/part of myself that I treasured most are my eyes! I was having lunchie with one of my treasured-bestsie when we saw another blind fella sitting on the table, eating his lunch. We couldn’t imagine how dark their world must be, never to see what they are eating, to see the beautiful worlds and navigate their life as we do. It must be too painful and sad but I think they are just so strong and brave.- For eye care, I eat a lot of carrots and occasionally taking beta carotene supplements as well as food that is rich with Vitamin A, red/orange colour food and fruits!- Recently I am more faithful to my eye-cream regime for twice a day after noticing some wicked-fine-lines which are NOT suppose to pop up, not now, not ever! But it does! >_< - Facing too much computer, I have dry eyes quite often and I use artificial tears to moisten them, but I could hardly fight my strong and stubborn will to stop using the computer after work. Maybe reducing it is what I can do for now. - Blink a lot whenever you can. And close your eyes for a while when it is tired.- And lastly, I use eye masks every now and then to hydrate my eyes.

How to measure SPF?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Most women knows what is SPF, which stands for Sun Protection Factor. But what is it really means and how is it measured?

The number indicates how long it takes before sunburn occurs. Some volunteers are needed to do the experiments where they are exposed to light spectrum which mimic the noontime sun.

Some volunteers will wear sunscreen while others don’t.  The amount of light that induces redness in sunscreen-protected skin, divided by the amount of light that induces redness in unprotected skin is the SPF.

So, a sunscreen with an SPF of 15 will delay the onset of a sunburn in a person who would otherwise burn in 10 minutes to burn in 150 minutes. The SPF 15 sunscreen allows a person to stay out in the sun 15 times longer.

So, dab on your sunscreen before you go under the sun! Yes protect against skin aging, damage and cancer!
